Why Office Workers Should Consider Ergonomic Seating

Back ache is a common ailment amongst those who work in offices. This is often due to spending long periods of time sitting down, which some may be surprised to hear puts stress on the spine that can lead to significant back problems. Finding a way to prevent these problems developing is wise, and luckily there is now an impressive selection of ergonomic seating available to assist with this. Things to look out for when choosing an ergonomic seat for your office include the height of the chair, the depth and width of the seat, the back support and the material the seat is made from.

Ideally, the height of your office seating should be easily adjustable. Depending on your height, a seat that can be adjusted to anywhere between sixteen and twenty-one inches from the floor should be suitable for anyone. When seated, you should be able to place your feet flat on the ground, with your desk and arms at even height.

The seat of the chair should be able to accommodate any user comfortably. A width of between seventeen and twenty inches should be sufficient for most as should a depth that allows a distance of around three inches between the back of your knees and the seat.

The back support is extremely important. Your chair should provide support for your lower back to help prevent slouching. A bad posture when seated can cause the natural inward curve of the lumber region of the spine to straighten out, something that can lead to chronic back pain. The back support of your chair should be twelve to nineteen inches wide and adjustable to your height and comfort requirements.

The seat and back support should also be padded and made from a breathable material. This will make sitting for extended periods of time more comfortable and less damaging.

No one should have to suffer due to their office seating. While it may take some time, the most suitable ergonomic chair for you is out there, it is just a matter of finding it.
